Create a product: Book subscription box (General customer group)

This tutorial is geared for a merchant who is selling books, and offer to buy subscription box which includes a new book each month with small gifts and surprises

In this example let's imagine a scenario where the bookstore offers a special Book subscription box for registered customers. There are three types of boxes, Retail boxes, Mixed boxes, Mystery boxes. All of these boxes are available for a monthly subscription.

Step-by-step guide

One simple way to get this setup would be to create one simple (Mystery box) and two configurable products (Retail boxes, Mixed boxes). In our tutorial, we will figure out Simple product configuration only.

  1. Creating "Mystery box" product

  • Product Name: Mystery box

  • SKU: mystery-box

  • Price: $33

  • Subscription Options: At this point select “One-time Purchase Only“

  • At this point our basic product setup is complete

2. Enable and configure Subscriptions extension

  • Navigate to MPOWER - Configuration – General: Enable recurring subscription

  • Navigate to MPOWER - Configuration - Customers

Select ‘Specific Groups’ from ‘Allow to all customer groups’

Select 'General' as Customer Group Limit

 

3. Setup Billing Frequency (how to set up a billing frequency)

  • Navigate to MPOWER - Configuration – Billing Frequency

  • Add new billing frequency (monthly)

 

4. Open previously created product Scroll down to the Subscription Options section and open it

  • Available For: set to "One-Time and Recurring"

  • Click on the ‘Manage’ button for opening Recurring Options Management

  • Step 1: Recurring Settings

Is Trial Offered - NO

Start Date - Moment of purchase

Lock Product Price - YES

Offer Flat Discount - NO

  • Step 2: Billing Frequencies - Click on Add New button three times and select correspond Billing Frequency (monthly)

  • Step 3: Summary

  • Click Next and Save

  • At this point basic configuration of a subscription is done

RESULT:

Go to storefront as a Guest - "Mystery box" product is available only for 'one-time purchase'

Go to the storefront and sign in as a Customer - 'Recurring' options is available for logged-in customer, 'one-time purchase' as well.
